The Helmsman

.....Have you ever been awoken by loud exploding noises deep within your sub-conscious brain, and you are tempted to go llok around to see if anything fell or worse, did somebody breakin.....I was gonna say don't worry that the noises are all in your mind but sometimes that can be worse...you see you get this man, we shall call him for now, a boatsman, a Helmsman in fact, he guides the craft across the River Styx, a River that runs through Hades....This river Styx served as a crossroads where the world of the living met the world of the dead, and the world of the mortal met the world of the immortal....mortals, and great heroes and villains made their way across the river Styx. Some crossed the river many times, but for most, it was a one way trip.....the explosions you hear in your brain, is the Helmsman going crazy about the vact that some of his denizens of the underworld, bound to be there, have escaped back across the river, it is him throwing aimlees bombs into the deep of the night, trying to bring the souls of the dead back to him, thats where that old adage of "Don't pay the Ferryman until you cross", thats where that comes from, cos the Helmsman knew that the Devil didn't know who was coming or how many, so the Helmsman would throw a couple overboard and keep the fare, the immortal fare of your soul....so the next time you hear bump in the night, make sure its what you heard, as it is not too difficult with a little help from the Helmsman to slip from Sub-Conscious over into the River Styx, another immortal fare fro his pocket.....Dont pay the Ferryman, don't pay him till you die, Don't pay the Ferryman until he gets you to the other side......
